Signs Your BFT Access Control Installation Is Failing
- The keypad takes three or four tries before the gate moves. This usually means the membrane is worn or the internal contacts are corroded. Corona’s summer heat hardens the rubber key surface faster than you’d expect, and once the contacts start to go, the codes become intermittent.
- The remote works when you’re ten feet away but not from the street. That’s a receiver sensitivity problem, not necessarily the remote itself. The BFT receiver module may be failing, or the antenna wire has cracked. We see this a lot on gates that face east and bake in the morning sun.
- The gate opens on its own, or the keypad lights up without anyone touching it. A failing access control board can send phantom signals. This one is worth calling about right away, because a gate that opens by itself is a gate that isn’t doing its job.
- One code stops working while others still function. The access control memory is dropping entries. That’s a board-level fault, not a keypad issue. A new keypad won’t fix it.
- The keypad works but the gate stays open too long or closes too fast. The access control and the gate operator aren’t syncing. A replacement part needs to be configured to your board’s timing, and that configuration is where a one-brand handyman usually gets lost.
